have been in university for about one year. during my stay here, i came to realize that university life is like drinking coke. we e_perience all tastes of life here, sour, sweet, bitter and hot.
i am from province, which is far away from here. i often miss my mum, friends, and relatives in my hometown. however, i can't see them very often. so loneliness always keeps me company. i am sad that i can't be there with them.
lucky for me, life in university is rich and colorful. with more free time,we can do many more things besides study, such as joining societies clubs, and taking part-time jobs. such activities not only make our life more colorful, but also help us improve all kinds of skills. the university is a society miniature, what we learn here will benefit our future life.
our path in life will not always be smooth. setbacks can't be avoided. failing an important e_am, break up with boy or girl friend, or refused by a promising company, such setbacks are likely to get us down. sometimes we fell so frustrated that we even burst into tears.
drinkin coke is wonderful, despite the undesirble consequent hiccups. it's bitter, sour and peppery, but also sweet. and you'll even feel e_cited after gulping down a glass. a college e_perience is part of growing up. we cry, smile, fall in love, get hurt, leave, learn and then we become a better person.
university life is like drinking coke. i'm e_periencing it. and i know, i enjoy it!

good afternoon, my dear friends.
i am very happy to meet you here.it is my great honor to communicate with you at such a special occation.first of all, please allow me to e_press my appreciation to you all to listion to me.
i am proud of being a college student.the collegelife is fresh, new teachers, new classmates and new friends. i like the friendship, and their wide knowledge and opening mind. the grand library, school buildings and wide playground attrattde me very much.my college life is better than i e_pected, i can do anything i like. in the college we can not only learn the professional knowledge, but also develop our comprehensive abilities.if we can make full use of the period,we can learn many useful things.besides,we should have the active attitude to our life,do a contributionto the society.
collegelife is the most precious time in our life.most of us want to become an outstanding man. but there are some students still waste their time. they get together for eating, drinking or playing cards. they're busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. they completely forget their task as college students.

i think every student in junior high school or even a new term the first class meeting is a 'new semester new plan,' the university did not e_pect to have such a ban would be the same. however, every freshman to the university of strange environments such as e_ploration in the dark. however, an early goal set for myself in the dark, lit as a beacon, a constant reminder to guide us forward.
sister school seniors who passed before the e_change of e_perience, we can avoid detours. but everyone there is a separate individual, the e_perience can not be completely copied, should have its own general plan. college life includes learning, work and life. following on from the three aspects i came to my planning.
about learning: as long as we still a student, the total should be on learning more important position.
said freshman should be laid and compacted in the high number of basic english. therefore, in this two subjects put more effort is acceptable. last week the high number may be, i do feel a certain degree of difficulty, the preview before class and after school consolidation e_ercise is important. hope that through their practical learning in high numbers on the do not hang division. morning reading soon began to organize, which is learning english, the best opportunity to practice oral english.
indeed difficult to get up early, but i, as a member of the department of learning, i not only have to set an e_ample for other students should have acquired in the morning reading in. we have classes two nights a week only, the night a lot of time should be fully utilized. go to the library, participate in various activities that can harvest a lot of lectures!
other courses i would like to attend a lecture class, e_am take notes, e_ams should be no problem.
about work: every freshmen want to get a job at the university to e_ercise their own. i was no e_ception, e_periencing a lot of job interviews, into the three departments. will certainly be a little tired, a little busy, but i am full, know a lot of people, make more friends, learned a great deal of knowledge not in books. learning to do the work of the best things correct.
about life: as born in wuhan, is the first time i came to the university of fully independent living. from open water to the laundry to wash, to organize the house ... everything seemed very used to. without the help of parents and care, even nagging, autonomy back to me. more were free, were less constrained; more hard copies, far fewer care; more were lazy, far fewer urge ... but bedroom, the students have the help and concern, i also feel the general home warmth.
i believe in learning, work, find the balance between three aspects of life, go hand in hand, college life will be our life a perfect memory!
thank you! the end of my speech!
the topic of my speech is budgeting for life, get ready from this moment from this penny.
some day i went shopping with my roommates, after leaving the check-out counter, i picked one item from a girl’s bag and asked her: ‘hey, it’s pretty wrapped up. how much? ’ after long pause with no response, shamefully she said ‘beats me, i seldom care prices.’ the talk was over then there came the one deserved thinking ---- when we go into raptures at the sight of lu_uries, have we ever thought of our finance management?
ladies and gentlemen,
these years, under parents’ loving care, college students have taken purchase for granted. however, independent survival’s just around the corner. when youths hanging out in starbucks over a cup of coffee, when we lavishly squandering parental sponsor on brand names, when financial ability falling into neglect in te_tbooks, when the financial crisis engulfing the entire world, real life’s airing alarms. the ability in well managing finance matters relates to not only our present living condition, but also our future ideal realization. here thanks to this arena that i can share with you what i’ve learned during college life on finance management.
initially, for us students, a penny saved is a penny earned. lu_uries make us happy, but we need to balance whether these fancy goods are worth the price. actually it’s easy to save money. just make a list of what we have to pay for each month, such as your meal card, transportation card and other basic e_penses. apart from the list, set aside some money for your preferable entertainment or social contact as planned. only well budget for today can we well budget for future. particularly, be honest to your finance plan and we’ll see.
what follows is study comes first. distinct performance on study brings generous scholarship. it’s crystal clear what students should do during schooling so why not fulfill our duty? maybe in business one could work hard with no gains, but in university one’s efforts on study can always be paid off, with high respect and good reward. what’s more, study of investment and finance theories guides us to make rational use of resources on the right track.
besides, part-time job is ought to be part of our college life. in terms of money management, part-time job teaches us how challenging to earn money and helps develop thriftiness. in addition, concurrently holding a job and study cultivates us to make sensible use of our time as well as our money. furthermore, we might as well set foot in investment market, not for ___ a fortune, but for more understanding in case of future need.
now we are students supported by family, but the day we have to make living and manage life by ourselves will come eventually. till now i have gained more than twenty thousand rmb from scholarship and part-time jobs and as far as you are willing to, you can be better. we always say opportunity knocks at one’s door that is well-prepared. finance practice in university is the best internship to get ready for future financial challenges.
ladies and gentlemen, from now on, please reflect on ourselves, stop hankering after material comfort and unrealistic compare. attempt to count every cent and make every cent count, because the future we seek for is well worth today’s efforts.
enjoy yourself while fulfilling responsibility

in my 18 years of life, there have been many things. university days are the best part of them. i can never forget the days when i stepped into my university. i was impressed by its garden-like campus, its enthusiastic students and especially its learning atmosphere. i at once fell in love with it.
after the arduous military training, i get absolutely absorbed in my studies. the classes given by the teachers are e_cellent. they provide us with information not only from our te_tbooks but from many other sources as well. they easily arouse my insatiable desire to take in as much as i can.
frankly speaking, at first i had some difficulty following the teachers. however, through my own efforts and thanks to my teachers' guidance, i made remarkable progress. now i've benefited a lot from lectures and many other academic reports.
learning is a long process; i'll keep e_ploring in the treasure house of knowledge to enrich myself. this summer i got out of the ivory tower and entered the real world. a publishing house offered me a part-time job in compilation and revision.
at the beginning i was belittled by my colleagues. but they were really surprised when i translated seven english articles over 5,000 words on only one day. gradually, they began to look at me with respectful eyes. in their opinion i turned out to be a useful and trustworthy colleague.
i also realize that only those who bring happiness for others can be truly happy. so i often take part in activities concerning public welfare. i once went to a barren mountain village with my classmates. we taught the kids there who could not afford school. while showing them how broad and how civilized the outer world is, i was deeply touched by their eagerness to learn, their honesty and their purity. i couldn't control my tears on the day when we left. the precious e_perience with the poor kids made me aware of the responsibility on the shoulders of us, future teachers.
besides study and social practice, there are entertainments as well. i do body building every day, hoping to keep healthy and energetic. we also write a play and put it on in our spare time.
campus life is the most splendid time. but different people have different choices. the majority of students cherish their beautiful season and cherish the hope that one day they'll become outstanding. but there are indeed some students still under ignorance. they gather together for eating, drinking or playing cards. they're busy in searching for a girlfriend or a boyfriend. they forget completely about their mission as college students and the hope of their motherland.
finally, i do hope everybody can try their best to become a worthy citizen of the country. i do hope everybody can become the backbone of our nation and make great contributions to society!

just make to it the finals, they had to get past 60 others speaking on “the impact of globalization on traditional chinese values”。 that was at the semi-final on april 8-9. what will chinese college students think about the impact? each contestant had his own take on the subject. _ia summed up globalization by saying: “it’s just controversial and hard to say whether it is good or bad.” _ia took the old wall of his city, nanjing, as a metaphor. he spoke about the conflict over whether to protect the old walls or tear them down to represent the conflict of ideas. he suggested that people protect the wall as a valuable relic while tearing down the “intangible walls” of their minds that prevent communication. while some other students are more focusing on the impact of globalization on family relations, attitudes towards love, and job-hunting.
over the past 10 years, the national english speaking competition has given contestants a chance to speak on a variety of topics closely related to their lives. chinese students become more open-minded and receive various ideas and thinking over the decade. diversity becomes more obvious on campus, students have more opportunities to e_press and show themselves. it’s not an easy task for the contestants to win through the fierce competition. owning to their passion, hard work and persistence, they finally succeeded in the contest.
liu _in, the first champion of the national contest, is now an anchorperson of cctv-9. recalling the passion of study on campus, she said: “when you want to e_press your idea by a foreign language without finding a right way, you’re really upset. then you have to encourage yourself, and after a long term of bitterness, suddenly you find you get the right way with joy.” with the champion title in 21st century cup, liu attended the international public speaking competition in london in may 1996 afterward and got the first prize historically.
the winner in 2003 surprised the audience, since she came from accounting major instead of english major. gu qiubei, then 22 years old, was a senior in shanghai foreign studies university. while being asked whether she had some good methods to learn english, she said: “learn english with passion and enthusiasm.” attracted by the greatness of english language, gu even changed her major from accounting to english in her postgraduate study. the most important issue in english learning process she pointed out is personal interests. only people interested in english benefit a lot from the learning methods and those with passion will finally achieve their dreams.
when chief of global media giant viacom sumner redstone gave a speech in tsinghua university on his autobiography a passion to win, he was asked what made him to restart his career at the age of 60, the 81-year-old media tycoon said: “firstly, there’s a self-driving force in my deep heart, which keeps my passion to succeed and surpass others; secondly, i don’t think i’m too old to leave work, actually i love my work very much.”
some of the contestants have achieved their dreams as redstone; still others are on the way to their dream. with a passion to win, you will overcome obstacles and succeed at the end.
i’m studying in a city that’s famous for its walls. people who visit my city are amazed at the imposing sight of its walls, especially when silhouetted against the setting sun with gold, shining streaks. the old, cracked bricks are covered with lichens and the walls are weather-beaten guards standing still for centuries.
our ancestors liked to build walls. they built walls in beijing, _i’an, nanjing and many other cities, and they built the great wall, which snakes across half our country. they built walls to protect against enemies and evil spirits. this tradition has survived to this day: we still have many parks and schools walled off from the public.
for a long time, walls were one of the most natural things in the world to me.
my perceptions, however, changed after i made a hiking trip to the eastern suburbs of my city. my classmates and i were walking with some foreign students. as we walked out of the city, we found ourselves flanked by tall trees, which formed a wide canopy above our heads. suddenly one foreign student asked me, “where is the entrance to the eastern suburbs?”
“we’re already in the eastern suburbs,” i replied. he seemed taken aback, “i thought you chinese had walls for everything.” his remark set off a heated debate. at one point, he likened our walled cities to “jails”, while i insisted that the eastern suburbs were one of the many places in china that had no walls.
that debate had no winners, but i did learn a lot from this student. for instance, he told me that some major universities like o_ford and cambridge were not surrounded by walls. i have to admit that we do have many walls in china, and as we develop our country, we must look carefully at them and decide whether they are physical or intangible. we will keep some walls but tear down those that impede our development.
let me give another e_ample.
a year ago, when i was working on a term paper, i needed a book on business law and found a copy in the law school library. however, the librarian coldly rejected my request to borrow it, saying, “you can’t borrow this book, you’re not a student here.” in the end, i had to spend 200 yuan to buy a copy. meanwhile, the copy in the law school gathered dust on the shelf.
at the beginning of this semester, i heard that my university had started to think of unifying its libraries and linking them to libraries at other universities, so my e_perience wouldn’t be repeated. barriers would be replaced by bridges. an inter-library loan system would give us access to books from any library. with globalization and china integrated into the world, i believe many of these intangible walls will be knocked down.
i know that globalization is a controversial issue, and it is hard to say whether it is good or bad. but one thing is for sure: it draws our attention to china’s tangible and intangible walls and forces us to e_amine their role in the modern world.
and how about the ancient walls of mine and other cities? should we tear them down? definitely not. my city, like beijing and other cities, is actually making a great effort to preserve the walls. these walls attract historians, archaeologists, and many schoolchildren who are trying to study our history and cultural heritage. walls have become bridges to our past and to the rest of the world. if the ancient builders of these walls were still alive today, they would be proud to see such great changes in the role of their walls. they are now bridges that link east and west, south and north, and all countries of the world. our cultural heritage will survive globalization.

my brother-in-law opened the bottom drawer of my sisters bureau and lifted out a tissue-wrapped package. this, he said, is not a slip. this is lingerie. he discarded the tissue and handed me the slip.
it was e_quisite, silk, handmade and trimmed with a cobweb of lace. the price tag with an astronomical figure on it was still attached.
jan bought this the first time we went to new york, at least 8 or 9 years ago. she never wore it. she was saving it for a special occasion.
well, i guess this is the occasion.
he took the slip from me and put it on the bed, with the other clothes we were taking to the mortician. his hands lingered on the soft

what life is about
as we all know, the most important thing in life is our attitude towards it, tons of men have tried different ways of treating life, and some succeeded, some failed, and here are some of the tips they left us.
life isn't about keeping score. life isn't about your shoes or your hair or the color of your skin. in fact it's not about if you have lots of friends or if you are alone, and it's not about how accepted or unaccepted you are. life just isn't about that.
but life is about whom you love and who you hurt. it's about how you feel about yourself. it's about trust, happiness and compassion. it's about sticking up for your friends and replacing inner hate with love. life is about avoiding jealousy, overcoming ignorance and building confidence. it's about what you say and what you mean. it's about seeing people for who they are and not what they have. and we should always remember to be ourselves. other might have things that we desire but being what we really are is the only trail leading to the true colors of life. most of all, it's about choosing to use your life to touch someone else's in a way that could have never been achieved otherwise.
the parado_ of our time in history is that we have taller buildings but shorter tempers; we buy more but enjoy them less. we've learnt how to make a living but not a life, we've added years to life, but not life to years. and it is time for us to choose whether to make a difference in our life.
and these choices are what life is about.
